May 25: A very busy evening!

President Pat Quick, new member Greg Geis, and VP Membership Bob Titiryn

Toastmaster Nick Colón presided over a slate of 5 (yes, FIVE!) speakers, using a streamlined agenda. Several members have committed to finishing their Competent Communicator goals before the end of June, so we will be hearing and making a lot of speeches before then. Linda Coleman won for best speech and Saraí Garcia was best evaluator. But everyone did a great job, especially Nick in his debut as Toastmaster!

Greg Geis was inducted into membership. He had just been an outstanding  Ah-Counter for the meeting, so we are excited to have him. Welcome, Greg!

In the monthly business meeting, new officers for 2010-2011 were elected. They will take office on July 1st.
President - Tammy Bailey
VP Education - Benson V
VP Membership - Joyce King
VP Public Relations - Jodie Sanders
Secretary - DeWayne Ivey
Treasurer - Rodney King
Sergeant at Arms - Gary Chiu

A message from our new VP Education

At last night's special business meeting, Tammy Bailey was voted in as Vice President Education to fill the remainder of John W's term. (John gave up his office so he could devote his time to his son's recovery and his job. He is not leaving the club.)

A little bit about Tammy:
"I joined Toastmasters in 2006 as a charter member of Star-Telegram Toastmasters. I served as Area 34 Governor 2007-2008 and Division C Governor, 2008-2009. I was the Fall 2008 Conference Chair, and accepted my DTM award at that same conference. After leaving the Star-Telegram, I joined Afterburners because I wanted to be part of a club that would hold me to a high level of accountability and service to the other members. I'm looking forward to helping each of you achieve your goals in the Toastmasters program."

We are looking forward to it, too!

Can't make it to a meeting?

It's a smart idea to let someone know. In particular, the toastmaster of the meeting and the club secretary.

If you are scheduled for an opportunity, the toastmaster can find a replacement. If you are not on the schedule, the toastmaster then knows you will not be available to fill the shoes of someone else who won't be there.

Then there's the matter of being eligible to vote in business meetings.
If it is necessary for a member to be absent from the Club meeting, please notify the Club Secretary, Brenda Daniels DTM, by email in order for the absence to be "excused". This excused absence will not affect the member's voting privileges at Club Business Meetings.

Thanksgiving meeting and eating on Nov 24

First, we will be having FOOD! Linda Coleman is coordinating, so let her know what side dish you will bring. (The turkey and dressing are already arranged.)

Second, the meeting will be all Table Topics — think of a topic on the subject of Thanksgiving (the holiday).

Third, we will have our monthly business meeting which was postponed from last meeting because we did not have a quorum.

Taking care of business

The monthly Club Business Meeting was held on September 29th. Club Officers each gave their reports. We reviewed the proposed Club Budget and approved it with one change. The next Executive Committee Meeting will be on October 13th with the Club Business Meeting scheduled for October 20th.
